My name is Karina Dyer and I am a registered midwife and Early Attachment Specialist. I have worked for the NHS in Hospitals and the Community for 18 years. During this time I have cared for families during pregnancy, labour and post-natally including running antenatal and post natal groups, breastfeeding and young parents groups. Over the past 6 years I have undertaken additional training in assessing and supporting bonding and attachment between parents and their infants (including Neonatal Behavioural Assessment Scale, CARE index, Parent and Infant Psychotherapy and Watch, Wait and Wonder) and have since had extensive experience in using this training to help enhance sensitive relationship development within families, with children up to age 3 .
I have also developed and delivered training programmes about attachment and bonding to other professionals working with families and children, such as Health Visitors, Midwives, social workers and Childrens Centre workers.
In addition I developed the booklet and DVD entitled ‘Getting it Right from the Start’ a resource which is widely used throughout the country by services supporting families.
I believe passionately that having a baby is one of the most joyful, overwhelming and fascinating experiences we can have and that parenting can be the best and toughest job in the world. To this end I am committed to helping parents to be the best that they can be by providing information, support , guidance and an opportunity to explore options and make informed choices, which will enable them to care for their baby in a way which will contribute to their development into happy, healthy, empathic, well adjusted children and adults, who will in turn be great parents to their children.
I am NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) registered and regulated have a designated Supervisor of Midwives. I am insured by the Royal College of Nursing and I also receive regular supervision from a consultant clinical psychologist in order to ensure the highest standard of care for my clients.
